On the farm tours and tastings we enjoy new faces who become friends and followers. It's the vineyard and winery life that is so enjoyable when you have fun people around. It's been fifteen years of building our Kiepersol tribe. And we always discuss how we should give more than what we expect to get. And then suddenly it happens. You get more than you expect. A young lady in one of the bigger winery tour groups (obviously well traveled, a new implant to Texas, a girl that lives the exciting life of our state capital) was a little loud and little vocal since she got here. We left the distillery, walked through the vineyard and everyone touched and felt the vines. She was loudly by herself looking underneath the vines and over the vines when I said, "Are you guys ready to go into the winery?" I held the door open and everybody crowded in. When the last one was in, I climbed up the first two steps of the catwalk to be able to see everyone and she had her hand in the air like she had a question. I said, "Do you have a question?" She said, "No, but hallelujah! I found a real wine farm in Texas. You have vineyards and wine tanks here like a real winery." The rest of the tour group looked at her like she had lost her mind. I said, "Yes, we are farmers first." She said, "No, you people don't understand. I never see vineyards and tanks at other wineries."
By size, we are still a very small winery and by volume, it is plotting and planning to get all the fruit at the ripe time into the right tank to start the winemaking process for the season that in some cases that might last 33 months. I don't know how other people do their processes. And I told the young lady that everybody's business model looks a little different and everybody's goal is a little different. But we're all in a Texas wine industry that wants to make Texans proud. Everybody's got something that they do a little better, or smarter or a little more profitable. All we want is proud people enjoying us, our product and our place as their own. Go and tell somebody that we can spoil them. And somebody that can experience the loud joy that she experienced when she exclaimed, "I found a wine farm."
Yesterday, again the tasting room was filled all day long with true enthusiasts from all over the state and beyond. Wonderful people that are so easy to make happier, because they are already happy people at a happy place. And the enthusiasm of the Kiepersol young crowd truly rubs off and gives you that feeling of 'we are suddenly there'. Fifteen years of toil can suddenly be enjoyed by the people who understand and truly appreciate. I thank everyone that has hung in there with us. We promise we'll continue to try to make your Kiepersol experience memorable in that special happy way.
