We are always looking for reasons to have excuses to miss out. Miss out on a day's work, a bike ride, a day in the garden or meeting some wonderful new friends at the vineyards of Kiepersol. And it is all justifiable because we are believers and we all know that we shouldn't do things against our better judgment. So day after day, we put certain things on hold for very appropriately getting a rain check. I believe in the power of touching, feeling and experiencing the blessings of nature. Sometimes you get hair blown in your face, get a little wet, or have to put an extra coat on. And sometimes we get sun scorched to have that time so desperately needed to be outside. The unbelievable control that the weatherman has over most people's lives is a typical risk aversion. The same aversion so commonly used by engineers to over-design, just in case those parameters set by experience fall outside the bell curve. People plan, eat, sleep and drink by the words of the weatherman who sometimes gets lucky and gets it right. (However, warnings and watches do need to be considered seriously).
Being on the farm my whole life, I've developed a deep respect for the love and the power of nature. But I've never seen a believer's following and the patient resolve so sincere as the believer's of the weatherman. Live a little, risk a little, get wet. I've never seen anybody melt. Those words of fear and astonishment that utter the mouth can come true. So can the words of positive thinking and playful enjoyment of whatever nature deals. There's a stark difference between complainers and creators. Which one are you?
