The Story of We is every person's story-about the beauty of life, the unplanned pursuit of a dream and the resilience of love. He had a farm and dreams in Africa, but after tragedy strikes, everything crumbles. Nothing seems sure anymore-even his trust in God. He sets off for America, an unfamiliar country where he didn't even speak the language. With two young daughters and all they possessed in four suitcases, the three of them arrive in America with only hope. There, they encounter angels in human form of all colors and kinds who cross their paths one by one, bringing them to an unexpected destiny that far surpasses his greatest hopes. The power of three-three dreams and three hearts-weaves a story of simple pleasures, everlasting hope and surprising candor that will encourage and inspire. Only in America.
REVIEWS FROM AMAZON READERS
on February 26, 2013This book is a quick read about real people. I really enjoyed it in contrast to so much fiction that over protrays human struggle and non-fiction that is either boring or alarming. There's real tragedy and emotion, but a hopeful and positive feel to this story.
The take-away message for me was a reminder about how many people have helped me in the nick of time, and that I should really watch more closely for people who I might be able to help. About a year ago, my family helped someone and it turned out badly for us - this story inspired us to return to our kind and generous ways without reservation.
Read this book if you want to be inspired, help raise money for a good cause (proceeds help the developmentally challenged) and just enjoy an American dream story.
"It's not too late at all. You just do not yet know what you are capable of."
- Mahatma Gandhi
This is a story of a man and his two daughters that started out with nothing and built an estate that produces award winning wines, a state-of-the-art recording studio, a residential community with breath-taking homes and much, much more.
It chronicles his journey from South Africa to Texas and the obstacles he overcame, all the while caring for his two girls.
I truly enjoyed this story.
I could not put this book down. I know this family personally and had tears several times just thinking of what they went though to be where they are now!!! Uplifting! Amazing story! The American Dream in print!
The Story of We, is a story of the American Dream fulfilled. Nothing came easy for the DeWet family; but, there were angels around most corners to give them wings of survival. The storytelling seems to be in person, by Pierre. I have given it to many friends. What a fascinating, and sweet story, by a man we wish we all had, for a Dad--
