Although the winter of 2013 is still coming and going around here, it has created a new set of norms and a new set of memories of what winter is or should be in a society satisfied with averages. Was it a little above average or a little below average? No, it was the winter of 2013. It cleaned, it cleansed, damaged those areas we didn't protect and hurt the nose and ears at times. But a new season is upon us. In just a few weeks, we'll see the first buds and renewed signs of hope and life. A season of new beginnings and old considerations. A season where we can start with new disciplines and new appreciations or we can just average out and continue some of the bad and do a little good.
And to top it off, this will be an election year with promises and plans and news that tears down and vilifies to the point where numbness takes over and we again are just satisfied with the average. The average that speaks of hope ad prosperity without responsibility. The average that speaks hate of history without having been hurt or helped. Poverty is immortal, but without someone's success, it is doomed.
But here on the farm, it is a new season. It is a clean season - all we are going to do is the best we can without dragging the old seasons, the good seasons and the future seasons with us. Only this season day by day. Trying to do the best with what the day gives us for all. We hope everyone's season can be like the farmer's season with thanks and gratitude.
