The Intensity and Joy of the Cabernet Harvest: Week Three in the Vines

Harvest Update: Week Three

Intensity
This week, the scorching Texas sun was relentless, beating down on our vineyard as we embarked on the task of harvesting our award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Despite the intense heat, the spirit of our team remained upbeat. Although we did not have any rain this week, the heat added an extra layer of challenge to our harvest activities.

Joy
As we picked the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, thoughts of our recent successes made the hard work even more rewarding. Our 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve earned the title of Texas Class Champion and a Silver medal at the 2024 Rodeo Uncorked! Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo International Wine Competition.

Abundance
Cabernet Sauvignon, often heralded as the "king of red wines," thrives in climates like ours where it can bask in abundant sunshine to reach its full potential. Known for its thick-skinned grapes, this varietal delivers deep color, robust tannins, and complex flavor profiles that evolve beautifully with age. Characteristically rich in notes of black currant, plum, and subtle green bell pepper, along with hints of cedar and tobacco when matured in oak, Cabernet Sauvignon is a cornerstone in the world of fine wines. Its structure and depth make it a favorite for aging, allowing vintners to craft exquisite, long-lasting wines that captivate both connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike.

Legacy
Each cluster of grapes holds the promise of continuing the legacy of our award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon. As our vineyard cultivates this prestigious varietal, each harvest promises not just a beverage but a storied chapter in the ongoing saga of winemaking at Kiepersol. It reflects the legacy of the visionary Pierre de Wet and is now meticulously nurtured by his daughters, Marnelle and Velmay. Every bottle tells a tale of passion, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of excellence that defines their family's commitment to producing wines of exceptional quality. Join us in celebrating this rich tradition, where every sip is a tribute to our heritage and a toast to the future of winemaking at Kiepersol.
